You may think that as winter dawns then gardening comes to somewhat of a standstill, however for the greenhouse owner it is quite the opposite. However one easy way of keeping a greenhouse warm during the winter is to fill a bin full of hot water and leave it in the greenhouse, this radiates heat which sustains for a few days. Greenhouses are excellent for also retaining heat for the early morning winter sun meaning that plans that you could not grow outdoors will likely flourish within a greenhouse.
Lettuce is excellent to grow in from October to December, depending on quality of compost used. In December tmove the lettuces into 3 and a half-inch square pots of good quality compost (ideal if taken from the tomatoes grown in the summer!); the pots are placed twelve per tray in standard tomato trays . Ensure that the lettuces are raised in the pots to allow the air to curculate throughout them, this allows for much easier watering.
